Originally known as ‘plimsoll’, sneakers were first introduced in 1870s. The pair resembled the Plimsoll line on a ship’s hull and was widely worn by vacationers for they were actually comfortable to walk in. gradually, they were introduced into sports as tennis players started wearing them on the courts. The surface grip of the sole was increased when they got incorporated in the uniforms of the British Army.

Their association with outdoor activities has been long. During the interwar period, they were sported by athletes in Olympics. Cut to the 1950s, the leisure activities increased and white sneakers were made a compulsory addition in the uniforms of school children. It was not only their comfort qualities that made them so popular, but their smart and nifty designs gave them a polished finish.

In the 21st century, white sneakers are largely seen as a fashion piece. They are accepted by fashion enthusiasts all over the world as a great addition to the footwear collection.
